This is no book review, but more about finding myself in a character. No. She is no Elizabeth Bennet or Hermione Granger, but the lesser-known Skeeter Eugenia Phelan of THE HELP by Kathyrn Stockett. Most of you may have never heard of this book, or not seen the movie (Emma Stone plays Skeeter FYI) but she is the first fiction I can relate to. I was so into her character that I even changed my Facebook messenger id to "Skeeterperson". Funny enough no one cared to inquire about this change, so much for being similar to Skeeter. I can relate to Skeeter, and not simply because I love books like her or because she is an English graduate like I. I have lived her life, except the black community. First off, she is bloody tall like me and is made to feel bad about it like we had a choice to stop growing. Why is this society obsessed with a person's physique I will never know. A girl should be not too tall like a basketball player nor too short plump like "aunties". People say they embrace inner beauty and mind, yes they do, they ONLY SAY IT, but when it comes to the application we want average height weight and the brightest complexion. Well, at least Skeeter doesn't have to deal with " complexion" crap. But whatever the stupid standards are, I love how I look.
